Humiliating Defeat To Liverpool 'Could Be The End' Of Manchester United Star's Time At Old Trafford

France hero Frank Leboeuf believes that Real Madrid-linked Paul Pogba will leave Manchester United if they "carry on like this."

Manchester United’s humiliating defeat to Liverpool and being benched “could be the end” of Paul Pogba’s spell at Old Trafford, according to Frank Leboeuf.

Naby Keita and Diogo Jota scored inside 15 minutes at Old Trafford on Sunday before a Mohamed Salah brace fired Liverpool into a 4-0 lead before half-time.

United were outclassed at home and the in-form Salah added to the devastating scoreline by completing his superb hat-trick five minutes into the second half.

Pogba came off the bench after the break for Mason Greenwood, but the Frenchman only added to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s woes at United.

The 28-year-old midfielder was shown a red card in the 60th minute by referee Anthony Taylor after a shocking challenge on Keita.

Pogba will be out of contract with United in 2022 and has been linked with the likes of Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

And Leboeuf believes that the 2018 World Cup winner “must be very upset” and he is going to leave Old Trafford if “Manchester United carry on like this.”

Speaking to ESPN, he said: “I don’t know what’s going on there.

“Seeing that he didn’t start today for the most important game of the season for Manchester United, it made me think that it could be the end for Paul Pogba.

“He must be very upset, he was frustrated which is why he was red carded. If Manchester United carry on like this, I think he’s going to go.”

Liverpool’s 5-0 demolition of United has piled more pressure on the under-fire Solskjaer, who could be sacked by the Red Devils after a poor start to the season.

Former Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte is believed to be interested in the United managerial post and is widely tipped to replace Solskjaer if the Norwegian is axed.

United legend Paul Scholes launched a scathing attack on Pogba’s performance against Liverpool and suggested he should never play for the club again.

“Paul Pogba coming on to the pitch at half-time to try to help the team and maybe get a little bit of respectability about it, tries to stand on the ball, tries to show how strong he is in the middle of the pitch… gives the goal away,” he said.

“Then later on he gets sent off with a ridiculous tackle, now you’re 5-0 down with 10 men. You’d have to think, if Ole’s still a manager there, will we see Paul Pogba again in a United shirt?

“He’s caused mayhem over the last couple of years. Everybody knows what a talent he is, everybody trusts him, every manager trusts him, tried to give him his head and let him be the player he’s been.

“But with all the commotion, not signing his contract, almost holding the club to ransom, and then he comes on and does something like that.

“It’s not Ole’s fault, don’t get me wrong, but that’s part of it which almost summed the United performance up today.

“Look, he probably will play [again], won’t he? But I don’t think they will be missing anything if he doesn’t.

“He’s had numerous chances, he keeps saying he lacks consistency, but that is just [a lack of] discipline and disrespect for your manager and your teammates, what he’s done today.”

United are currently seventh and will return to action against sixth-place Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
