Paul Merson Claims That Arsenal Could Still Finish In Premier League's Top Four

Paul Merson Claims That Arsenal Could Still Finish In Premier League's Top Four

The former Arsenal forward says he 'has faith' that Mikel Arteta will help the team qualify for the Champions League next season.

Paul Merson is remaining optimistic and has backed Arsenal to finish in the Premier League's top four this season, and qualify for next season's Champions League.

The mood at Arsenal will have been lifted last week, as they took bragging rights from rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby.

Arsenal fans were so happy with the win, after a tough start to the season for Mikel Arteta's side, that they had to be told by rival fans to calm down with their celebrations.

However one Gunners' fan clearly hasn't taken that advice on board and is now tipping the team to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Speaking on Soccer Saturday, Merson said he didn't think that Aston Villa would finish above his former team and that he had faith they'd finish in the top four.

Ahead of the international break at the end of August, the north Londoners were bottom of the table, having failed to score in their opening three games of the season.

Whilst those included losses to title favourites Manchester City and Chelsea, there was an opening day loss to newly promoted Brentford.

Since then though, Arteta's side have won three in-a-row in the league, beating Norwich and Burnley before their incredible first half against Spurs set up that win.

The recent turnaround has seen Arteta's team climb up the table to 10th and it is still early days in the season, which means they could, and should climb further.

However most fans wouldn't expect them to reach the top four, with champions City, Chelsea, Liverpool and even the stuttering Manchester United predicted to be in the Champions League places come the end of the season.

It would have to be a hell of a dramatic season for Arsenal to overtake those rivals but if it does happen it'll make for interesting viewing.

After the season, Arsenal will have an Amazon Prime Video 'All or Nothing' behind the scenes documentary broadcast, with cameras currently following them.

Martin Odegaard said recently that it wasn't his favourite thing, but you expect the players won't mind if the finish in the top four.
