Nikola Vlasic Breaks Down In Tears After Ashley Westwood Suffers Suspected Serious Injury

Nikola Vlasic Breaks Down In Tears After Ashley Westwood Suffers Suspected Serious Injury

Vlasic was consoled by West Ham and Burnley players after the incident.

West Ham United attacker Nikola Vlasic was visibly distressed after witnessing Burnley midfielder Ashley Westwood's horrific injury. Footage of Westwood being stretchered off can be watched below.

The two players went for a ball in this afternoon's Premier League clash at the London Stadium and Vlasic nipped in ahead of his opponent.

Westwood attempted to reach the ball and stayed down, immediately asking for medical attention.

Vlasic looked back at the 32-year-old and immediately saw something was wrong. He then crouched down in shock and had to be consoled by teammates.

Captain Declan Rice and Clarets forward Maxwel Cornet were among the players to approach Vlasic, who felt awful about the innocent collision.

Hammers duo Issa Diop and Tomas Soucek could be seen giving the Croatia international words of encouragement.

Aaron Cresswell could be seen with his head in his hands after the incident.

Westwood received a huge round of applause from all in the ground as he was wheeled away on the back of a medical cart.

It's Burnley's first game since long-standing manager Sean Dyche was sacked on Friday, bringing an end to his nine and a half year spell at Turf Moor.

No permanent manager has been hired yet with a caretaker team of the Under-23s coaching staff as well as first-team skipper Ben Mee in charge.

Dyche was a popular figure among players but the club chose to act following last weekend's defeat to Norwich City.

Burnley took the lead through Wout Weghorst and could've been 2-0 up at halftime after Lukasz Fabianski brought down Cornet in the box for a penalty.

The 25-year-old would take the spot kick but put his effort wide of the post.

West Ham qualified for the Europa League semi-finals in midweek after a 3-0 victory over Lyon and looked sluggish from the off.
