'You Need A Win To Save Your Life, You'd Pick Ronaldo Over Messi To Do It'

'You Need A Win To Save Your Life, You'd Pick Ronaldo Over Messi To Do It'

Is Ronaldo the better big game player?

Piers Morgan believes "you'd pick Ronaldo over Messi every time" in a must-win game to save your life.

Arsenal supporter Morgan took issue with Gary Lineker stating that there has never been a better player than Lionel Messi, who celebrated his 33rd birthday yesterday.

The Good Morning Britain host hit Lineker with another reply arguing that Ronaldo is the better player as he is "stronger, fitter, faster & far greater in the air".

And Morgan, who did a feature length interview with the five-time Ballon d'Or winner on ITV last year, then made the claim that if your life depended on winning a game of football, Ronaldo would be your choice.

The 'wet, cold Wednesday night in Stoke thing' is a bit of a myth given that six-time Ballon d'Or Messi has 26 goals and six assists in 34 games against English clubs over the years.

And it's also worth noting that Morgan did once label Messi as the best footballer ever at the expense of Ronaldo in a 2012 tweet that he later deleted.

However there is a genuine argument for Ronaldo being slightly better equipped for the bigger occasions, given he boasts a 70% win percentage in finals compared to Messi's 67.65%.

In addition, a study last year revealed that Ronaldo is "immune to pressure" and thrives on the big stage.

SciSports teamed up with research university KU Leuven to study how much stress is a factor in key moments in football games.

Collecting data from 7,000 minutes and analysing how performance levels are affected by in-game pressure, they uncovered that Ronaldo's performance levels remain the same in "every scenario possible".
