Why Thibaut Courtois Won't Making His Real Madrid Debut Tonight

Thibaut Courtois will have to wait a little longer than anticipated for his Real Madrid debut.

The big Belgian signed for Los Blancos in a £35 million move last week and has been training with his new club for the big game against his former employers, Atletico.

However, it appears as though he won't be available for selection - with Cadena Cope saying that he hasn't been registered to UEFA in time for the game, so Keylor Navas looks set to get the nod in between the sticks.

Instead, he will watch the game from the sidelines in Tallinn, Estonia before likely making his first bow for the 13-time European champions against Getafe in La Liga next week.

It delays Atletico Madrid fans from giving Courtois a visceral reception for the game, though they've already let him know what they think of him.

'Atleti' supporters vandalised Courtois' plaque outside the Wanda Metropolitano, spraying 'rata' in graffiti while others also spat on it and poured beer.

Courtois was on loan at Atleti between 2011-2014 and added the Europa League, La Liga and Copa Del Rey to his trophy collection.

He also created quite the rapport with Atleti fans when he told Real to "f*** themselves up the ****" after Diego Simeone's side celebrated a trophy win on the town hall balcony.

But having made the switch to Real, they've turned on him big-time and are planning to get back at him during the Madrid derby at the Wanda Metropolitano in February.

One chap has been encouraging supporters to purchase 50,000 toy rats to hurl at the 26-year old - even dropping the link to the IKEA website for the toy, which costs €1, such is how desperate he wants to make it a tough experience for Courtois.
