Why Leipzig's 6-2 Win Means Liverpool Now Have To Pay £4.75 Million More For Naby Keita

They probably won't mind too much...

Liverpool have bagged themselves a brilliant signing for next season in Naby Keita but RB Leipzig's result today means they will have to pay a little extra for the 23-year old midfielder.

Keita, who will take on the coveted No.8 shirt at Anfield when he joins up with the Reds' in July, is having another impressive individual campaign - scoring nine and registering seven assists in all competitions.

However, Leipzig have been unable to maintain their performance levels of last season when they finished as surprise runners up to Bayern Munich.

A 6-2 win away at Hertha Berlin means the Red Bull-backed club qualified for the Europa League next term and they are now entitled to an extra £4.75 million for the departing Keita - taking the total cost to £52.75 million.

Had they secured qualification for the Champions League for a second successive year, the final accumulative price would have climbed to £59 million as a further payment of £6.25 million would be due.

Liverpool will probably be happy with the fee they are paying for a very talented midfielder who would appear to be a perfect for their way of playing.

What is a concern, however, is Keita's disciplinary record.

A couple of weeks back, the Guinea international marked his final home game for Leipzig by getting sent off for the fourth time this season.

It follows up his domestic dismissals against Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayern Munich, as well as the red card he received on international duty in a World Cup qualifier against Tunisia in October.
