When David Beckham And Ryan Giggs Both Took A Free-Kick At The Exact Same Time

Why have one player take a set piece when you can have two?

David Beckham and Ryan Giggs both took their fair share of set-pieces during their time at Manchester United but a lesser know fact is that the legendary pair once took one at the exact same time.

It happened in a 1-1 draw away Aston Villa back in August 2001, with Beckham and Giggs deciding to conjure up something out of the ordinary.

Two or more players standing over the ball is pretty standard in dead-ball situations, but one normally feints to shoot before the other strikes the ball.

This time, however, both players lined up to hit it and then proceeded to do exactly that at the same time in a truly unique free-kick routine.

It wasn't far off from working a treat, as former United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel had to pull off a fine save in the Villa goal before Roy Keane fouled the big Dane and put him on his backside.

From one routine that nearly paid off to one that was an absolute disaster, look no further than Granit Xhaka and Stephan Lichtsteiner's complete and utter fail in October.

Switzerland had a set-piece in a pretty good position but Arsenal skipper Xhaka and former Gunners' defender Lichtsteiner attempted to try something different.

They both ran around the ball, faking to take the free-kick in attempt to create space for an opening down the right flank. Unfortunately for them, however, the run was tracked and they were made to look very silly.

It was supposed to be a routine straight off the training ground but in the end Xhaka, having hesitated to play the ball into the path of his teammate, just curled the ball into the box and saw the free-kick defended by Denmark.
