Cristiano Ronaldo had the perfect response to being booed by his own fans back in 2016.

Things weren't quite happening for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner in a La Liga fixture against Celta Vigo and Ronaldo ended up being jeered by Real Madrid supporters after an overhit pass went straight out of play.

The whistling happened early on in the second half, with Real 1-0 through a first-half goal from Pepe.

Often booing, particularly from their own supporters, can have a negative impact on a player and ultimately affect their performance on the pitch.

But the exact opposite happened for Ronaldo, who raised his game. A minute later and the Portuguese talisman received the ball and, out of anger, lashed a stunning long-range strike into the top corner to double Real's lead.

He followed that up with a further three goals, including a glorious free-kick, in a 7-1 thrashing of Celta at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It's one of many examples of Ronaldo's unparalleled mentality and drive to be the very best.

He's been quoted in the past as saying, "your love makes me strong, your hate makes me unstoppable" and the 35-year-old has recently gone on record to say he actually enjoys being booed in stadiums all over the world.

"For me I have to be honest, to play in an empty stadium is boring in my opinion," he said at the Global Soccer Awards in Dubai.

"We, the players, respect all the protocol and health is the most important thing of all, of course, but I don't like it, to be honest.

"I do it first of all because I love football. My passion is always football. I play for my family, my kids, my friends, the fans. But I don't like it, to be honest. It's so weird.

"I like when people boo Cristiano.

"When I touch the ball they 'boo', I like it. I hope in 2021 they can change the rules and we can see the stadiums full of people."
