Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have a tremendous mutual respect but that didn't stop the former mocking him in the tunnel.

Back in 2018 when playing for Real Madrid against Valencia, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner was having a conversation with one of the mascots.

The youngster was in awe of the Portuguese superstar and told him, "For me, you are the best player in the world and Messi..."

But before he could finish the end of his sentence, Ronaldo quickly interrupted and said, ""...Is bad!" - his proper Dad joke getting some laughs from teammates Nacho Fernandez and Dani Carvajal.

Watch the comical exchange here:

Ronaldo was playful in his put-down of Messi but he has always been full of praise for his long-time rival.

There was a wonderful moment in August 2019 when the two were sat together in the front row at the UEFA Champions League draw.

CR7 delivered a brilliant interview regarding his relationship with Messi and even invited him to dinner at some point in the future.

"I shared this stage with him (Messi) for 15 years," Ronaldo said on BT Sport.

"I don't know if it has ever happened before in football - the same two guys in the same stage all the time. Of course we have a good relationship - we have not had dinner together yet, but I hope so in the future.

"We have that battle, he pushed me and I pushed him as well. It's great to be a part of the history of football. I am there, and of course, he is as well."

After their battles on the pitch during El Clasico, the Juventus forward has even urged Messi to join him in Italy.

Their last meeting was in May 2018 but both Juventus and Barcelona have been placed in the same Champions League group - meaning we should see the two titans line up again on 8 December at the Nou Camp.

The first fixture was a 2-0 win for the Blaugrana. Ronaldo was unavailable to play due to a positive COVID-19 test.
