What Diego Simeone And Diego Godin Did When Griezmann Was Booed By Atleti Fans
Antoine Griezmann has revealed the extent Diego Simeone and Diego Godin went to console him following being booed by his own fans, and it's great.
The French star is plying his trade for Atletico Madrid but he came very, very close to joining Barcelona in the summer window.
His name was constantly doing the rounds with a reported £87 million transfer supposedly in the works.
But Griezmann eventually confirmed he was staying in the red and white side of the Spanish capital, turning down Barcelona's lucrative offer.
However, as the transfer saga lingered on, it frustrated the Wanda Metropolitano faithfuls who jeered Griezmann in the final La Liga fixture of last season.
The 27-year-old has since detailed how Atletico Madrid's manager and captain comforted him at his house.
"[Simeone] and Godin came to me after the match at the Wanda Metropolitano in which I was booed," he said.
Griezmann added: "It was a message from Godin: 'I will go to your place so we can have a chat.' I didn't know that [Simeone] was with him, and I see [Simeone] stepping out of the car.
"I was amazed. 'What are you doing here? What do you want? Nothing' he said.
"We have been talking and we wanted to see how you have been. He told me that I didn't have to make a decision straight away but that I had to take things calmly.
"He advised me to talk it out with my relatives and close people and then [he told me] about all what I represented for the club and for himself."
Simply put; that's why Godin is club captain.
The Uruguayan defender going beyond his responsibilities to check up on his teammate. A superb gesture.
The support displayed is one of the reasons why he ultimately remained at Atletico Madrid.
