If Liverpool overcome Europa League veterans Sevilla on May 18th, Jurgen Klopp's side will be granted automatic entry to the Champions League group stages but what happens to the fourth-placed side in the Premier League?

The season is coming to a close, which means many fans are confused over European places. "If Liverpool win the Europa League, what impact would it have on fourth place?", "How will it affect my club?" etc, etc.

In the past, there have been only four Champions League places on offer. Remember when Chelsea defeated Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League final and fourth-placed Tottenham were cruelly booted into the Europa League?

Fortunately for either Manchester United or Manchester City fans, the above does not concern you as there will be no repercussions for the top four if Liverpool win the Europa League final.

That means five English clubs will feature in the Champions League if Liverpool are victorious at St. Jakob-Park on the 18th of May.

The Europa League winners will be elevated into the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Fourth place was only at risk of missing out on the Champions League had Manchester City progressed to the final and won the tournament, while finishing outside of the top four.

And if Liverpool secured Europa League glory then things could have got complicated.
