It appears people have worked out what Federico Bernardeschi said to Cristiano Ronaldo when he started to cry after being sent off.

Ronaldo's Champions League debut for Juventus was a brief outing as he was controversially red carded for pulling Jeison Murillo's hair.

Match referee Felix Bryce consulted with the touchline official before giving Ronaldo his marching orders in the 29th minute.

The Portuguese superstar couldn't believe the decision. He collapsed to the floor in sheer disbelief. His emotions got the better of him as he started to tear up.

As he begrudgingly walked off the field, teammate Bernardeschi consoled him whilst reportedly saying: "You're number one."

The Italian winger felt sorry for Ronaldo who was unable to influence his new side in Europe's elite competition.

"To me the decision wasn't the best one, but if that is what the ref saw, what could we do?" He said.

"We know how much Ronaldo wanted to impress tonight. He had been gearing up for this and to help us win.

"I feel for him because I know how much he wanted to start with a bang in the Champions League for Juventus. It went differently but when he is back, you will see for sure."

Without Ronaldo, Juventus still managed to secure all three points. The Serie A outfit beat Valencia 2-0 thanks to two penalties from Miralem Pjanić.

Ronaldo is now set to miss Juventus' next Champions League fixture against Young Boys but could still feature at Old Trafford

Meanwhile, the defending Italian champions resume their league campaign versus Frosinone this weekend.
