With West Brom struggling for goals in what was a solid but not spectacular top ten finish in 2016/17, there's talk of the Baggies planning a big summer move for a Premier League striker.

Salomon Rondon and Hal Robson Kanu scored just 11 goals between them in the Premier League last term, and with adding to his attack, Tony Pulis is said to have identified Watford captain Troy Deeney as a top target.

Deeney, 28, has a great connection with the Watford fans have turned out at Vicarage Road for seven years.

Plenty of people will agree with Deeney's comments on young footballers of today:

But he did not have a good relationship with Walter Mazzarri, who left the club after a limp 17th placed finish in his first and only season in charge.

And even with a new manager set to come in for next season, the report from the Daily Mail says that Deeney could still move on, and a move to West Brom is being talked about.

The former Walsall man is from Birmingham and so a transfer to West Brom has appeal to him in the sense that he would be back in his hometown.

Deeney is contracted until 2021 having signed a new deal with the club in the summer, and so Watford will not let their skipper leave on the cheap.

£20 million is the price mentioned, but it's also noted that that Deeney has a £25 million clause in is contract, and West Brom activating that would be far more appealing for the Hornets chiefs.

A move for Deeney would likely have to be a club record signing at the Hawthorns, with West Brom's highest incoming transfer to date the £13 million capture of Nacer Chadli from Spurs in 2016.

In terms of wages, if he did join West Brom, Deeney would also reportedly arrive as the club's top earner, with the talk being that the club are prepared to offer him £100,000 a week if their advances are accepted by Watford.

Since his debut in the Premier League against Everton in 2015, Deeney has scored 23 goals - making him the third highest-scoring English player in the top flight in that period.

Do you think Deeney will be on the move this summer? Is he worth the reported transfer fee and wages mentioned?
