People scrolling down Arsenal's Europa League squad might have questioned why new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan wasn't in the 23-man team, until they finally spotted his name beside the number 77.

Arsenal added four players to the list, including Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Santi Cazorla, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Xavier Amaechi. but the fact that Mkhitaryan's number is so high has grabbed plenty of attention.

It has emerged that because of UEFA regulations, Mkhitaryan is not allowed to wear the same number that Sanchez wore before his transfer move to Old Trafford.

In a statement on Arsenal's official website, it explains why Mkhitaryan wasn't allowed the number seven:

"The No.7 shirt was vacated by Alexis this month but, because our former forward wore the number during our group-stage win against Cologne back in September, UEFA rules state that Mkhitaryan must wear a different number for the remainder of our Europa League campaign."

"This number will be confirmed soon," the statement added.

Another kit number that raised eyebrows was Leicester City's Adrien Silva, who sported the number 14 shirt for a very special reason.

As we know, the midfielder was supposed to be a late deadline deal for Leicester as the Foxes looked to replace Danny Drinkwater, who moved to Chelsea.
Unfortunately his move was so last minute that it didn't go through till 14 seconds after the deadline.

Silva confirmed that he chose the shirt number at Leicester in relation to the 14 seconds that made Leicester miss the deadline to register him in the summer.

Brilliant.
