Dejan Lovren has mysteriously removed himself from Twitter and Instagram - and nobody knows why.

The Liverpool defender was away on international duty this week as Croatia played Hungary in a friendly.

He failed to play any part in that 1-1 draw, but that wasn't the big story from the week surrounding the centre-back - his disappearance on social media was.

Now Lovren is still on Facebook and posted as recently as March 24, but his accounts on both Twitter (@DejanLovrenLFC6) and Instagram (@dejanlovren06) have now been deactivated.

It's not the first time he's got rid of his Twitter - and the apparent explanation for his last decision to leave the social networking site was a response to hate he received from Southampton fans following his £20million move to Liverpool in 2014.

Whether Saints fans are to blame for his latest move is unclear, but it's doubtful the Liverpool supporters have driven him to this.

Lovren had a difficult first season at Anfield, however, he appears to have found his best form under Jurgen Klopp since the German's arrival in October and the defender should expect to play a big part in the run-in.

Another theory behind his social media move could be the fallout from Croatia's clash with Hungary - where his manager Ante Cacic criticised him for returning from a warm-up early during the match.

Cacic revealed Lovren had taken a step away from the squad and that hints that his place at Euro 2016 could be under threat.

But it's difficult to see why that would lead him to deleting his Twitter and Instagram accounts.
