For the majority of youth players in the academy system, a simple word or conversation with the first team manager could spur them onto bigger and better things.
The wisdom of an experienced head could really impact your career. That being said, during a 12 year spell with Arsenal Football Club, former youth team player Marcus McGuane didn't even talk to Arsene Wenger in that time period - something that many are struggling to understand.
McGuane has hit the headlines in recent days after making his first team debut for Barcelona at the age of 19.
The youngster made his debut for the Gunners as a substitute in the Europa League earlier this season, which makes it even more remarkable that he didn't speak to Wenger.

In an interview with The Daily Mail, McGuane revealed more about his time at Arsenal during his youth days.
"I didn't have any conversations with him. I thought if I kept working hard, I would get opportunities. It didn't come." he said.
"There's no grudge but I felt the best thing was to find another way. If you want to be at a place to develop and get first-team football, maybe you have to look elsewhere than Arsenal."
McGuane signed a three-year contract with Barca and had a £21.9 million release clause inserted into his contract.

As is standard procedure for youngsters who sign with the Catalan club, he has been playing for Barca's B team, making four appearances so far.
He has trained with Messi, Iniesta and co. on one occasion a couple of weeks back but his big opportunity arrived Lleida on Wednesday.
