Brendan Rodgers To Arsenal? Paul Merson Thinks It Needs To Happen

Here we go again...

Paul Merson has claimed he's be shocked if Arsenal don't move for Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers this summer, following the Hoops' dramatic 3-2 win over Rangers yesterday.

As we told you at the time, Rodgers was linked publicly with the Emirates hot-seat several weeks ago, with current Gunners boss Arsene Wenger under increasing pressure to stand down.

Rodgers has been mentioned as a potential replacement, as well as Germany coach Joachim Lowe, and Sky Sports pundit Merson reckons the Northern Irishman has all of the attributes required to reinvigorate the struggling North London club.

Speaking on Sky Sports earlier today, via Sports Illustrated, the former Arsenal midfielder said: "I don't know why he doesn't get the Arsenal job.

"He fits Arsenal great, the nearest Liverpool have ever come to winning the league for a long long time is when Brendan Rodgers was in charge.

"He's done nothing wrong at Celtic. To do what they've done, people can say it's Scottish football and Celtic are head and shoulders above, but every team they played on that run treated it like a cup final, which is difficult sometimes."

"I think he [Rodgers] now needs a change and needs to come back down."

"I'll be shocked if he didn't get a good job, I'd be quite shocked if he didn't get the Arsenal job."

Of course, Rodgers has managed Liverpool and Swansea City in the Premier League, with a certain degree of success, but would the Arsenal support be so accepting of him replacing Arsene Wenger, or would they want a 'bigger' name?
