West Ham Have Given Andy Carroll His Own Mural And What Even Is Life?

West Ham Have Given Andy Carroll His Own Mural And What Even Is Life?

Bit weird, this, lads

Andy Carroll is, without doubt, the England striker we all deserve. A hulking, wrecking ball of confusion who constantly looks as if he's eight pints deep and about to bellow "SHOTS!" at his teammates. Yet despite our love for the long haired Geordie lothario, we think West Ham may have overdone their latest tribute to him.

A few weeks ago, Carroll dropped jaws everywhere when he scored an outrageous scissor kick against Crystal Palace.

The goal was that good that, had he retired immediately after scoring, claiming that his career had peaked and that he was off to vodka revs for a skinful, he would have been completely justified in doing so.

In fact, even more impressive was the fact that Hammers boss Slaven Bilic revealed that Carroll had given himself whiplash in scoring the goal.

Yet, we can't help but feel the East London club have gone overboard in their reaction to the strike. Had it been in a cup final or a last day of the season, relegation saving moment, then fair enough we could understand immortalising the goal, but a mural for an effort in a throwaway Premier League clash with Crystal Palace that people had forgotten by the end of Match Of The Day, that night? Come on, lads.

Fair enough, the mural is replacing one of Dimitri Payet scoring a trademark free kick and, given the mood towards Payet at the London Stadium, that's somewhat understandable that the club would want to eradicate anything to do with him. But shouldn't such a prominent tribute be dedicated to an iconic moment in the club's history, rather than a goal, great though it was, against Crystal Palace?

What do you make of the mural? A deserved reward or a cringeworthy embarrassment?
