Sam Hutchinson gave the visitors the lead with Derby momentarily condemned to League One.
Though a Martyn Waghorn brace helped his side come back. He scored to make it 1-1 before converting a penalty to level the game once again at 3-3.
Patrick Roberts scored Derby's other goal while Callum Paterson and Julian Borner bagged for Wednesday.
Though the result at Pride Park sees Wednesday go down along with Rotherham, who drew 1-1 at Cardiff, and Wycombe Wanderers who beat Middlesbrough 3-0 away from home.
