Wayne Rooney starred on Monday Night Football as a pundit, but the Everton striker also wants to become a manager while revealing the team he wants to take in charge of.

The 32-year-old waved goodbye to Old Trafford in the summer, calling time on a trophy-laden spell at Manchester United which included winning the Premier League title and the coveted Champions League.

Though the in flux of new talent in shape of Romelu Lukaku saw Rooney return to his boyhood club.

And while he remains focused on finishing his career strong, Rooney already harbours ambitions of taking over the helm at Goodison Park.

"The main thing I want to have a go at is management," Rooney told Jamie Carragher in an interview with The Telegraph.

Eyeing up the Everton hot seat: "I would love to stay at Everton in a coaching role or hopefully manager one day.

Rooney added: "It is something I want to do - to stay involved, but if that is not possible I will look to see where the opportunities are for me. I am determined to become a manager.

Under the guidance of Ronald Koeman then Sam Allardyce, Rooney has weighed in with 10 league goals from 20 games this campaign.

But, from next season, Rooney has plans of getting his managerial feet wet with Everton's youth set-up.

"From next season I want to be doing some coaching sessions with the Under 14's at Everton. It would be good to have all my badges by the time I have finished, but it is also about having the chance to carry on when I have so I can get straight into coaching.

Despite mapping out his future beyond his playing career, Rooney is determined to give his all as a player before eventually hanging up his boots.

"Obviously my first objective is to do well as a player over the next few years. Then I hope the role can grow into something beyond that. It is something I will talk about with the club when they and I feel the time is right.
