Wayne Rooney Hits Back At Media Backlash Against Him

Has the criticism gone too far?

Wayne Rooney is the country's all time top goalscorer and is just two strikes away from becoming his club's top scorer too. However all week the media, maybe including ourselves, hounded him about a night out partying and the striker's had enough.

Rooney hasn't had a good season and arguably the same can be said of about the last two season but this last week the criticism of the England captain went beyond football and possibly too far.

'Wazza' was pictured last Saturday after a very late night drinking session looking worse for wear but at the time he was already ruled out of England's next game.

The United man has now hit back at the criticism, branding it disrespectful. As reported by the Telegraph, Rooney said:

"What's been going on is disgraceful. I'm proud to play for my country and I'm proud of my achievements. It's not finished yet.

"I think what's been going on is disgraceful. It shows a lack of respect and I think enough to enough. That's all I want to say."

Speaking later to the BBC the former Everton man reiterated his point adding, "Enough is enough. It feels as if the media are trying to write my obituary and I won't let that happen. I love playing for my country and I am proud of my achievements to date - but I have not finished yet."

Rooney came off the bench in the second half against Arsenal but couldn't help the team win as Olivier Giroud equalised late on.

Does Rooney have a point about the lack of respect?
