Wayne Rooney 'Gambles Away £500,000' In Late Night Casino Spree
When you earn £300,000 per week, this next sentence won't trouble you at all. Imagine losing half-a-million pounds in one night at the casino?
Well, Wayne Rooney allegedly did that just last night in a two-hour gambling spree on his own at a casino in Manchester. It's alright for some, eh?
I've just sat here and worked out that, before tax, I'd have to work over 25 years to claw back losses of that scale. It will take Rooney around a week and a half to do the same. Brilliant.
The Manchester United and England star is said to have ran up the bill on roulette and blackjack at Manchester's 235 Casino.
According to one witness he was sticking a load of money on red (well, I guess we can see why) and was blowing around £4,000 per minute.
Others in the casino said the United record goal scorer arrived alone at midnight and spent around two hours betting and drinking.
One witness said: "Wayne was being extremely reckless, laying down chips which amounted to massive bets.
"He was drinking bottles of beer. But he wasn't drunk. He was more interested in the gambling than drinking.

"He was gambling a lot on red when he was playing roulette - which seemed appropriate - and was putting long-shot bets on solo numbers. He kept losing but that just prompted him to bet more.
"He was chasing his losses, which was just making things worse for him. People in the casino were looking at him and were stunned at what was happening."
Rooney was supposedly cursing under his breath (who wouldn't be - I do so when I've lost a fiver, not £500,000) but was fixated on the tables and the machines.
However, despite the bad run of luck, Rooney was treated in true VIP style - with staff members at the casino tending to him closely.
The betting spree comes just a couple of weeks after other footballers were caught in gambling issues. Burnley's Joey Barton was banned for 18-months for betting on matches - something that is illegal in the game.
Rooney's wife, Coleen, won't be too happy at the news. Rooney said in his autobiography that she'd been furious when he lost £50,000 earlier in his career.
Maybe all the gambling luck of the year was used up when a Brazilian businessman, Pedro Grendene Bartelle, placed $35,000 on a single roulette, and won $3.5m. Not a bad night's work at all.
