Watch: Wayne Rooney Continues Incredible Week In MLS With Trademark Free-Kick

Watch: Wayne Rooney Continues Incredible Week In MLS With Trademark Free-Kick

Wayne Rooney made headlines courtesy of his remarkable last-ditch tackle and glorious assist to set up a 95th minute winner in a dramatic victory over Orlando City and he was doing the absolute business in the 4-1 win over Portland Timbers last night.

The 32-year old equalised to make it 1-1 just before half-time after Samuel Armenteros had opened the scoring for visitors Portland Timbers, and then followed it up by curling in a sublime free-kick to make it 3-1 in the 68th minute. The second angle really shows the whip Rooney was able to get on the strike.

England's record scorer Rooney has forged a reputation for being deadly from set-pieces and this 25-yard goal was just typical of him.

Yes, the goalkeeping is a tad questionable given the shot isn't right in the corner but we'll let it slide purely because it marks a tremendous few days for Rooney, who is helping steer D.C away from bottom place and giving them a chance of still making the Eastern Conference play-offs.

'Still got it' is a phrase which is used far too often but it's fitting here with Rooney. Like many legends that came before him in the United States, Rooney is absolutely tearing it up and prompting many to question whether he left the Premier League too early.

His game-winning passage of play against Orlando a few days back summed up everything Rooney is about on the pitch: determination and desire to stop a certain goal and then the technical brilliance to pick out Luciano Costa with a 30-yard pass for the winner.

Rooney was so exhausted that he didn't even run over to his teammates to celebrate, but they all undoubtedly aware of the impact he's had at the side - their record has considerably improved since he joined the club.

The games continue to come quick and fast for D.C, they look to make it three wins in a week with victory over New England.
