Paolo Maldini is regarded by many as one of the greatest defenders to ever play the game in Europe, having won an astonishing FIVE Champions League titles and seven Serie A titles, as well as 126 caps for Italy.

Speaking at the launch of United's pre-season tour for 2017 in New York, Ferguson detailed how he missed out on Maldini which prevented him from plying his trade under the bright lights of the 'Theater of Dreams'.

He retired in 2009 at the age of 40 as a one-club man, having played over 700 times for Milan, but Ferguson has admitted he tried his utmost to bring him to the Premier League.
