When an unheralded skinny winger teared apart Manchester United en route to a 3-1 victory way back when, Sir Alex Ferguson quickly got his cheque book out to snap up him up and Cristiano Ronaldo has now revealed exactly how the fiery Scot persuaded him to swap Lisbon for Manchester.

Plying his trade for Sporting Lisbon, the Portuguese outfit were pitted against United in a pre-season friendly.

And Ronaldo churned out a 'Man of the Match' worthy performance prompting The Reds to acquire his services for £12.24 million in 2003.
