Back in May 2017, Real Madrid splashed out €45 million euros (£38.7 million) for then 16-year old Brazilian wonderkid Vinicius Junior, with there being optimism that he can be the next big samba star.

And now the starlet, who has remained on loan at Flamengo and will continue to develop there until the 2019 Brazilian season has finished, is dreaming of a spot in Brazil's World Cup squad in the summer.

A few nights back, Vinicius came off the bench to score his third goal of the season in a 2-0 win over Boavista, a result that brought him his first trophy with the club.

He also ruined an opponent so badly that he had to go off with an injury:

And the Brazil U-17 international says he's been given confidence from the legendaryRonaldinho that he could be on the plane to Russia if he keeps performing.

"I dream of going [to the World Cup]," he said in an interview with Globo Esporte.

"Recently I spoke with Ronaldinho and he told me that they always take a young player. He told me to always remain focused. So that if the opportunity presents itself, I would be prepared. I keep this in my thoughts, you know, because he is Ronaldinho.

"I have always admired him a lot. He is the idol of all of us who love football. I have the dream of one day wearing the shirt of Brazil's Selecao. I don't know whether that will be this year or next, but I am evolving every day with Flamengo so that I can reach the moment when I can represent Brazil."

Last week, Brazil boss Tite revealed to UOL Esporte that 15 of his picks for his 23-man World Cup squad have already been decided, with only eight spots up for grab.

Could Vinicius Jr force his way into the World Cup squad? Who else will get in?

Sound off in the comments.
