Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidić has been offered a sensational return to the club as Under-23 coach.

That's according to Vojvodina manager Nenad Lalatović, who believes that it would be the perfect fit for the former United star.

"He got an offer to coach Man Utd B," the 41-year-old Serbian told Bosnian channel ELTA TV.

"I told him that's perfect for him if he wants to coach, but he hasn't decided yet."

United's reserve team have had no manager since May following the dismissal of Ricky Sbragia.

Nicky Butt, who is the youth academy's head of coaching, axed the 63-year-old Scotsman after the team finished sixth in division two of the Premier League 2.

Vidić, 37, called it time on his football career in 2016 after a two-season stint at Inter Milan.

But the Serbian powerhouse made his name during his time at Old Trafford and was widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the world.

He struck up a commanding partnership with Rio Ferdinand and won five Premier League titles, three EFL Cups and one Champions League during his eight years in Manchester.

And Vidić could be open to the idea of coaching the U23s as a launching pad for his own career in management.

The ex-Spartak Moscow and Red Star Belgrade player has been open about his desire to enter into management like United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

Vidić was critical of José Mourinho's management style at Old Trafford last season and also revealed his dream of managing United someday.

"If you're speaking about the Sir Alex Ferguson era and comparing now the last three, four years, definitely Manchester United is not on the level fans [are] expecting," he told BeIN Sports last year.

"We have to believe the club is going forward.

"To be honest, in the future, I would like to be the manager."

Should Vidić take up the U23s post?
