Leicester City fans are no doubt fuming after they were not awarded a penalty at Anfield.

Liverpool defender Joel Matip clearly handled the ball in the area and James Maddison appealed to the referee straight away.

But despite his protestations and what we can only assume was an incredibly brief VAR check, the Cameroonian was let off the hook.

Given the amount of harsh handballs we've seen this season following on from the tweaking of the rule, fans were baffled as to how a spot-kick was not given.

The call just further highlights the inconsistencies with what is and isn't deemed to be handball in the Premier League.

Liverpool went 1-0 up in the 21st minute after Jonny Evans headed into his own net from a James Milner corner.

Diogo Jota then extended the lead just before half-time, continuing his electric run of scoring in every home Premier League appearance this term by notching the second after a cross from Andy Robertson from the left.
