Twin Footballers Jacob And Josh Murphy Set To Square Off For The First Time

Cardiff vs Newcastle doesn't seem like the most exciting game to kick off the second weekend of Premier League football this term but seeing two footballing twins on opposite sides is enough reason to tune in.

Cardiff's Josh Murphy and Newcastle's Jacob Murphy are poised to play against one another competitively for the first time.

Both came through the ranks at Norwich City, before Jacob got his dream move to Newcastle United ahead of the 2017/18 this season.

But it wasn't long before his brother joined him in the top flight, penning a deal with Neil Warnock's Cardiff and potentially becoming only the second set of twins to square off in the Premier League.

The first ones to do so were Michael and Will Keane, who came up against one another in the game between Burnley and Hull City on 10 September 2016 - the same day that Josh replaced Jacob to score a winner for Norwich against Cardiff.

Jacob says it will be a surreal experience playing against his brother and joked they might even swap shirts at half-time and play on the other team.

"We have never played against each other competitively," he revealed in an interview with the Daily Star.

"It will be strange having to tackle him. We will swap shirts at full time. Or maybe half time and have a go on each other's teams."

The 23-year olds would easily get away with it, as well. When at Norwich, Chris Hughton made them wear different coloured boots so he could distinguish between the two of them.

The Murphy clan have a lot of Newcastle supporters but Josh says they will be hoping that both brothers impress in South Wales.

"They will both want us to have a good game and the best team to win," he admitted. I want a Murphy goal and a Newcastle win.

"We've never had a rivalry. We just support and help each other. We'd boost each other up if one wasn't doing as well. We were there for each other. At Norwich we looked after each other.

"I find it strange how other siblings are so competitive because me and my brother are not against each other."
