It has been revealed why Daniel Sturridge turned down the chance to join Newcastle, despite holding talks with Rafael Benitez in person and having two bids worth around £15 million rejected.

Sturridge decided to join West Brom over Newcastle because of "geographical reasons", according to reports.

Of course, the 28-year-old was originally born in Birmingham and still has a number of family members in the city.

Newcastle had hoped that a loan move would eventually become permanent, so for the England international to turn down a deal will be heartbreaking news for supporters.

Sturridge has been subject to intense speculation with a host of clubs heavily linked with his striking services.

While Newcastle United attempted a last ditch bid to lure him up to St. James Park, Benitez has lost the race to his signature with Sturridge joining fellow Premier League side West Bromwich Albion.

It not only bolsters Alan Pardew's options up front, but also adds a wealth of experience to his side ahead of the second half of the season.

West Brom have also fended off competition from home, and abroad. La Liga outfit Sevilla and fallen European giants Inter Milan expressed an interest in drafting him on loan.

This season, Sturridge has played just nine league games, weighing in with two goals. Though he's been blighted with injuries.
