Premier League Club Are 'Serious Contenders' In Race To Sign Renato Sanches

Forget the top six...

Premier League side Swansea City are looking to pull off one of the biggest coups of the summer transfer window in the coming days.

According to WalesOnline, Paul Clement wants to bring in Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches before Thursday's deadline.

Clement, who worked under Carlo Ancelotti during his time at Real Madrid and Bayern, is keen on bringing the talented Portugal international to the Liberty Stadium in the coming days.

The report suggests that Swansea are 'in genuine contention' to sign Sanches - a potentially huge transfer for the club, who lost Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton earlier in the month for £45 million.

Clement reiterated after the win over Crystal Palace at the weekend that a priority remains a creative edge and Sanches would certainly bring that spark to the Liberty.

Along with the likes of Tammy Abraham, the Portuguese midfielder would slot in nicely alongside new arrivals Roque Mesa and Sam Clucas.

But they will face stiff competition from top European clubs, including AC Milan who have previously expressed an interest.

Sanches' struggles at Bayern have come as a surprise to many, especially given how impressively he took to the international stage last summer at Euro 2016.

He was the youngest player to represent Portugal at a major tournament and was awarded Man Of The Match honours for his performances against Croatia and Poland in the second round and quarter-finals, respectively.

Yet the 19-year-old would go on to make just 17 league appearances (only six of which were starts) for Bayern during the 2016/17 campaign.

He has been linked away from the Allianz Arena all summer, with Manchester United and Chelsea heavily linked with the former Benfica prodigy.

And it now looks like Swansea City are the unlikely club in contention to sign Sanches, as Clement's relationship with Carlo Ancelotti could come in handy on this occasion.

Would Sanches to Swansea be a good move for the 20-year-old?
