Spurs Target Premier League Striker To Strengthen Attack

This could be another shrewd bit of business by Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham's lack of transfer activity so far this summer has worried many of the club's fans to the point where, yesterday, a suggestive tweet spectacularly backfired when Spurs supporters discovered it to be an 'In The Know' tease for a 50% off sale at the club's online shop.

The subsequent reactions were so filled with so much rage they caused Spurs' social team to delete the tweet, as fans' furies boiled over.

However, reports are surfacing today suggesting that Spurs are set to make a move for Bournemouth striker Joshua King, following the south coast's capture of Jermain Defoe, yesterday.

Bournemouth have spent £30 million already this summer, bringing Asmir Begovic and Nathan Ake on board in addition to Defoe. Offloading King could go a long way to recouping a large amount of that outlay.

Given the problems that are currently affecting Mauricio Pochettino's frontline, with Erik Lamela out of action until October, Son Heung-min missing the next three months with a broken arm and Vincent Janssen struggling for form since arriving in North London, the Argentinean manager is prioritising a forward to take some of the pressure off Harry Kane.

And King, with 16 Premier League goals to his name last season, could fit the bill perfectly.

The former Manchester United youngster, who is contracted to the Cherries until 2020, admitted recently that he would be interested in a move to Spurs, saying, via the Telegraph, "I was intrigued even being mentioned in the same sentence as Spurs, a big team who play in the Champions League."

Tottenham are also believed to be pursuing a deal for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, who is yet to commit his future to the Toffees.
