Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has reportedly told his teammates to reject a salary cut because the money will only go towards signing transfer target Kylian Mbappe.

That's according to José Ramón de la Morena, a presenter at radio show El Transistor, who claims that an unnamed player at Los Blancos has told the club about Ramos' controversial actions.

The news comes after it was claimed that Madrid are continuing to make cuts in an attempt to 'manage the financial difficulties brought about by COVID-19', report Marca.

Back in February, Sergio Ramos was asked to take a pay cut to ease Real Madrid's burden of paying Gareth Bale's hefty wages, according to reports in Spain.

According to Diario AS, the Spanish side wanted Ramos to reduce his wage bill as Madrid control their finances amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Spanish newspaper added that Los Blancos are unable to match the Spanish centre-back's current salary at the club.

Madrid were reportedly hoping that Ramos agreed to the reduction in his salary, but it looks like he may join another club in the coming months.

Ramos, who is out of contract at the end of the month, has been heavily linked with a move away from The Bernabeu in recent weeks, with Manchester City and PSG reportedly keen.

Speaking in March, former Real boss Zinedine Zidane admitted that he doesn't know where Ramos' future lies.

He said: "I want to be honest and I have to say I don't know what's going to happen with him.

"We want him to stay here. He's always going to be an important player and I want him to remain here, that's what I'll say as a coach."
