Porto have splashed the cash on securing the club's second most expensive signing of all time, by parting with €20m for Atletico Madrid midfielder Oliver Torres.

Torres has been on loan at Estádio do Dragão since last year and the 27 time Portuguese champions have now made the move permanent after confirming they have an obligation to sign him at the end of his loan deal in December.

Porto, who are currently second in the Primeira Liga, just a point behind rivals Benfica, will be hoping the 22-year-old Spaniard committing his long term future to the club will help in their quest to overtake Benfica and bring a 28th title back to the Dragões.

Torres has represented Spain at U18, U19 and U21 level but is yet to break into the senior international side. He was part of the Spain team that lifted the U19 European Championships in 2012.

Porto will be hoping Torres doesn't go the way of these Football Manager 'wonderkids'...

The attacking midfielder made 54 appearances for Atleti before taking in a loan spell at Villareal, although his time with the Yellow Submarines wasn't particularly productive, with Torres making just nine appearances at Estadio de la Cerámica during the 2013/14 campaign.

Torres originally made his Porto debut during a previous loan spell in the 2014/15 season, scoring seven times in 26 appearances. He has turned out 13 times this term, finding the net just once. He will be hoping to add to that tally during the second half of the season as Nuno Espírito Santo's men look to end the season with some silverware.
