It helps if you own two teams just like Marinakis who runs operations at both Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos.

So, Forest were keeping tabs on Olympiacos' Panagiotis Tachtsidis but failed to secure his signing with the window slamming shut.

However, a few weeks removed from the English transfer deadline, Forest have eventually secured the midfielder's services for the 2018/19 season.

Tachtsidis has penned a deal until 2020.

How did Marinakis pull this off?

Well, the Forest owner terminated Tachtsidis' contract at the Greek club so he could snap him up at Forest on a free transfer.

Business at it's finest. A stroke of genius by Marinakis.

Anyway, the 27-year-old is delighted to join a 'fantastic club' in Forest.

"It is a great honour for me to join such a fantastic club in Nottingham Forest. Everyone knows about the history of this club so to be able to pull on the shirt is a proud moment," he told the clubs website.

"It is a big club and I hope to make a big contribution during my time here. There is a very talented squad and I am excited to be a part of it and hopefully we can achieve some success this season."

Tachtsidis added: "I have heard lots of things about English football. I know that this league is tough, it is physical but I know that I will fit in with this style.

"I like to compete and be strong, but I also like to play good football and with the players we have here, I know that this will suit me and I just can't wait to get started."

Tachtsidis has enjoyed spells at AEK Athens as well as stints in the Serie A with the likes of AS Roma and Genoa, among others.

He'll now ply his trade in England's second tier.
