Newcastle United are prepared to meet the £67.5 million release clause of a top striker, according to stunning reports.

A Saudi Arabian-backed £305 million takeover of Newcastle has been completed, with the club looking for new talent ahead of the January transfer window.

The Premier League side have been linked with a host of new players, including Burnley's James Tarkowski and Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele.

And it appears the 'Magpies' are also lining up a move for Porto's Luis Diaz, who has a release clause of £67.5 million.

Portuguese outlet SPORT TV claim Newcastle are set to trigger Diaz's release clause in January.

The 24-year-old signed for Porto in 2019 for £6 million, with the forward enjoying a prolific start to the new season.

He's bagged seven goals in 11 matches in all competitions and has starred for Colombia on the international scene.

Diaz is also responsible for an outrageous piece of skill for his national side against Brazil.

Newcastle sit precariously in a relegation spot and have yet to register a win in the league this season.

The club have recently parted ways with Steve Bruce, who took charge of the first game of the club's new era.

They lost 3-2 to Tottenham, with Graeme Jones set to handle managerial duties for their next match against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
