Manchester United Lost Out On Jude Bellingham Due To Wage Demands

Manchester United Lost Out On Jude Bellingham Due To Wage Demands

By Mike Parrott

It has been revealed that Manchester United lost out on the signing of Jude Bellingham due to not matching Borussia Dortmund's wage offer.

Jude Bellingham officially joined Borussia Dortmund at the start of July after having his number retired at Birmingham City earlier last month.

However, it was to be believed that Bellingham was going to end up at Manchester United. The Red Devils had numerous meetings with Bellingham and his father, including a secret meeting involving Eric Cantona and Sir Alex Ferguson.

It seems though that the reasoning for Bellingham to ultimately snub United were down to the insane wages offered by Dortmund for the 17-year-old.

According to ESPN, Manchester United lost out on Jude Bellingham's signing to Borussia Dortmund as they were unwilling to match the £56,000-a-week wages that the Bundesliga club were offering.

When Bellingham was first linked with the Manchester outfit there were question marks over the role he'd be able to play in the first-team, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was reportedly confident that the starlet would be able to contribute at least 20 senior appearances next season.

To put it into perspective, Mason Greenwood for United is currently only on £30,000-a-week albeit scoring 17 goals for the United senior team this season.

While United remain committed to paying top wages for the leading players, the club are also determined to avoid repeating past mistakes, such as the £18m-a-year deal given to Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean left United today after joining Inter Milan on a free transfer.
