Manchester United have been handed a much needed boost in the wake of Sunday's derby disaster with reports emerging that claim the Red Devils are in pole position to sign Fulham wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon, next month.

The 17-year-old full-back has become one of the most sought after talents in Europe after a string of impressive displays over the last 18 months.

The teenager has already made 53 appearances for the Cottagers, netting an impressive 11 goals in the process and being named in last season's PFA Championship Team Of The Year. At international level, Sessegnon has also lifted this year's UEFA U19 European Championship with England.

Now, according to various reports, via Metro, Fulham are willing to part with their prodigious left-back next month and are on the hunt for a replacement to come in in the new year.

Sessegnon's newfound availability will likely prompt Jose Mourinho to favour a move for the teenager over Tottenham's Danny Rose, who is believed to have a £50 million price tag on his head.

Tottenham are also thought to be interested in Sessegnon, although United are currently believed to be favourites in the race for the 17-year-old's signature.

The left-back position has become problematic for Jose Mourinho since he took over at Old Trafford in the summer of 2016, with Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young and Luke Shaw all taking turns to play there over the last 18 months, although Shaw did impress against Spartak Moscow last week, earning Man Of The Match plaudits and being promised more game time by Mourinho for his efforts.
