Luke Shaw Set For Newcastle United Loan Move

The Manchester United left-back is out of favour at Old Trafford

Luke Shaw's quest for regular first team football looks to be finally coming to a close, although it won't be at Manchester United, this season.

Instead the former Southampton youngster looks set for a loan move to Newcastle United for the rest of the season in a bid to prove that he can still be England's first choice left-back and maybe also Jose Mourinho's.

Mourinho never seems to have trusted Shaw since arriving at Old Trafford, with the injury prone defender struggling to prove himself to the Portuguese manager, who has instead favoured one of Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young or Daley Blind at left-back over the past year, even though none of those players are naturals in that position.

The 22-year-old has made just two appearances for United, this term, both of which have come in the League Cup. Last season wasn't much better either, with Shaw turning out just 19 times for United, despite enjoying a promising run of form a year earlier under Louis Van Gaal before breaking his leg during a Champions League game against PSV Eindhoven.

Now though, Shaw could find himself playing regular Premier League games under Rafa Benitez, who is a fan of the England international, who set United back £30 million in 2014.

According to the Mirror, the Magpies boss would prefer a permanent move for Shaw, but he realises his transfer budget probably won't stretch to what United would demand for the full-back's signature, so a loan deal until the end of the current campaign is more realistic.

Tottenham are also believed to be interested in Shaw, with Danny Rose's future at the North London club still uncertain. Mauricio Pochettino has worked wonders with some of England's youngsters already and the belief is that he could revive Shaw's career, too.

However, a loan move to St. James' Park could provide Jose Mourinho with all the evidence he requires to make a more permanent decision about Shaw's Old Trafford future, next summer.
