We're not sure if members of the Portuguese press have a long running sweepstake going on the future of William Carvalho but there's not been a transfer window go by in the past four years in which the Sporting CP midfielder hasn't been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Now A Bola are reporting that Liverpool have representatives in Lisbon trying to finalise a deal for the 23-year-old.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all been perennially linked with the Euro 2016 winner since he broke into the Sporting first team back in 2013, but now, reports seem to indicate that Jurgen Klopp has stolen a march on his Premier League rivals.

Carvalho's certainly fared better in his career than these 'wonderkids'...

Contracted to Sporting until 2020, Carvalho will likely command a fee upwards of £25m, according to A Bola's report.

Jordan Henderson's injury problems this season, coupled with Emre Can's erratic form have left Klopp searching for reinforcements in the middle of the park as he looks to claw back some ground on Premier League leaders in his pursuit of delivering a first title to Anfield in 27 years. Last weekend's shock 3-2 home reverse to Swansea City has left Klopp's men 10 points off the pace in fourth spot with potentially season defining fixtures against Southampton in the League Cup and Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal in the Premier League coming in the next month or so.

However, A Bola also report that a deal won't be easy to conclude which may mean Klopp's current frustration with his board's lack of activity in the transfer market is set to continue.

In slightly more positive transfer related news for the Reds, it is believed Philippe Coutinho is ready to extend his current deal at Anfield, with the club set to offer him a new contract which they hope will keep the Brazilian playmaker out of the clutches of Barcelona, who have been heavily linked with the former Internazionale youngster over the past 12 months.
