Schurrle was expected to be a like for like replacement for another former Chelsea star, Kevin de Bruyne, who joined Manchester City for £50m in August and has been a revelation since arriving at the Etihad. Schurrle, on the other hand, has struggled to make an impression for Dieter Hecking's team and is now believed to favour a move back to the Premier League with Wolfsburg allowing him to leave the Volkswagen Arena after the current campaign has finished.
