Ahead of tonight's Champions League clash against Juventus, in Turin, Tottenham will be feeling quietly confident they can come away from Italy with a result, given the run of form they're currently enjoying.

But Mauricio Pochettino's side would be even more confident if they were in possession of Miralem Pjanic, Juventus' Bosnian midfield maestro.

And the former Roma man has revealed in a recent interview with the Telegraph, how he could have been on the opposite side of tonight's Champions League round of 16 match.

Shortly after Spurs had sold Luka Modric to Real Madrid, in 2012, the North London club approached Pjanic to replace the Croatian midfielder, with Arsenal also making a play for his services while he was plying his trade with Roma.

But Pjanic told the Telegraph he was happy in the Italian capital at the time and decided against a move to London.

"You want to know the names? They were Arsenal and Tottenham.

"There was the opportunity but at that moment I told them I was happy where I was and that's why we didn't sign the deal.

"But I made my choice using my head and if I made that choice not to go to an English team it was for good reasons."

The 27-year-old would go onto stay with Roma for another four years before moving to Juventus, in 2016.

Pjanic has since made 75 appearances for the Bianconeri, scoring 13 goals and helping them to a domestic double, last season as well as being one of the driving forces behind the Serie A champions' run to the Champions League final, where they were eventually beaten 4-1 by Real Madrid.
