Hot on the heels of his failure to bring John Terry to St.Andrews, Birmingham City manager Harry Redknapp is switching his attention to another Premier League legend.

The former Spurs manager took over the reigns at the Championship club at the back end of last season, steering them away from relegation to League One after Gianfranco Zola had been sacked following a disastrous run of results that had plunged the Blues towards the wrong end of the table.

And, after former Chelsea and England captain Terry decided to reject a move to St.Andrews in favour of a move to Birmingham's second city rivals Villa, Redknapp is now focusing on a move for former Spurs, Leeds and Liverpool striker Robbie Keane.

The 36-year-old striker is currently a free agent, having come to the end of his contract with MLS side LA Galaxy.

The Irishman spent five seasons in Los Angeles, scoring 104 goals in 165 games, winning three MLS Cups during his time in California.

Should Keane return to the Midlands, where he briefly spent a loan spell with Aston Villa during the 2011/12 season, he would be reuniting with Redknapp after the pair worked together at White Hart Lane between 2008 and 2012, with Redknapp re-signing Keane after he failed to impress during his short stint with Liverpool.

Redknapp spoke of his admiration for the former Coventry City striker, via the Mirror, saying, "Robbie is a player you would love to have around your football club.

"He is just a fantastic professional footballer, a great trainer, enthusiastic person, an absolutely buzzy character.

"We haven't spoken to Robbie but I wouldn't want to be a liar and say I'm not interested in him and then two weeks later bring him in.

"Any football club with Robbie Keane in is a better football club.

"He can bring an awful lot to any club. At the moment I haven't done anything but it's not an impossibility."

As well as Keane, Redknapp is looking at concluding a deal for Preston North End Jordan Hugill.
