Dalian Yifang have ditched one of their foreign imports.

Unlucky, Jose Fonte.

Yep, that's right - after just seven games for the Chinese Super League outfit, Fonte has left the club by mutual consent.

He confirmed his departure by taking to social media: "My time in Dalian and Chinese Super League comes to an END," he wrote on Instagram.

"I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to everyone i met and made friendships along the way!

"UNFORGETTABLE experience and I'm blessed to have been treated in the best way by everyone!!!Im forever grateful to all Dalian fans and to The great country of China I hope I left something good at least I tried my very best !!!

"Once again THANK YOU and all the success."

The Portuguese defender left West Ham United in February to venture to the Far East, joining Dalian for a reported £5 million fee.

But his career in China never really took off.

In fact, Fonte endured a truly miserable debut. His side suffered a humiliating 8-0 defeat to Shanghai SIPG.

Fortunately for Fonte, though, Fernando Santos still selected him for Portugal's 23-man World Cup squad.

And he actually starred for Portugal in the heart of their defense alongside Pepe, starting all four games before being dumped out by Uruguay.

Fonte turns 35 in December but is attracting plenty of interest with Lille reportedly set to snap up the free agent.

The player himself is also keen on returning to the Premier League following stints at Crystal Palace, Southampton and the aforementioned West Ham.

Where will Fonte be plying his trade next season? Watch this space.
