Ronald Koeman has sought to bring an end to the speculation surrounding Ross Barkley's future at Everton, this afternoon amid constant reports that the 23-year-old midfielder is set to leave Goodison Park at the end of the season.

Barkley has been linked with a number of clubs over the past few months, with Manchester City reportedly at the head of the queue to secure the England international's signature.

And Toffees boss Koeman has seemingly had enough of Barkley's indecision over whether to sign a new contract at Goodison Park or not, by setting the midfielder a deadline of a week to make his mind up.

Barkley's current deal at Goodison Park runs until next Summer, which lessens Everton fee bargaining power should Barkley decide he wants to leave the club. The Toffees also find themselves in a similar situation with striker Romelu Lukaku, who also has just over 12 months left on his contract with the Merseyside club.

The move from Koeman comes at a time when the Everton manager will likely be assessing transfer targets ahead of next season and will surely want to have Barkley's future confirmed one way or another so he can adjust his targets accordingly.

Barkley, once thought of as one of the most promising talents in English football, has struggled to maintain the immense promise he displayed during his breakthrough campaign for the Toffees in the 2013/14 season. He has scored five goals in 37 appearances this season.
