Beckham Close To Naming Inter Miami Manager, Admits He Wants To Sign Two Former Premier League Stars
David Beckham's expected to sign English players for Inter Miami and he's also got his eyes on a pair of former Premier League captains.
The new franchise have a challenge of assembling an entire squad and appoint a manager for the new season.
The club only have two players on their books in Julian Carranza and Matias Pellegrini as they look to add new faces ahead of playing their first competitive fixtures in March.
And it appears they're interested in snapping up Gary Cahill and Antonio Valencia.
Cahill's a free agent after his Chelsea contract expired at the end of last season, while Valencia signed for LDU Quito after being released by Manchester United. Yet he's been targeted as a potential signing by Beckham.
Inter Miami also anticipate an English presence and the franchise have already had some conversations with English players.
Jorge Mas, one of four co-owners, says the club are hoping to appoint a coach with an "attacking style".
"We are trying to get someone who can also commit here for a period of time and leave his fingerprints on our team," he said.
"it's someone you're going to know who has coached before at the highest level and who has played at the highest level.
"I think you will see if you look at our young signings, we've made substantial investments in them.
"We're going to couple them with players who have played in Europe who are very well known.
"We've looked at some English players. We're having some conversations with some English players and we anticipate Inter Miami will have some English presence."
Major League Soccer plans to expand to 30 teams as Inter Miami will join Nashville SC as new franchises in 2020, taking the MLS to 26 teams.
