Barcelona's Philippe Coutinho Turns Down Loan Move To Tottenham

Philippe Coutinho has turned down a stunning loan move to Tottenham.

Sky Sports claim the Barcelona midfielder has rejected Spurs' approach to sign him on an initial loan deal.

Coutinho, 27, has been the subject of intense transfer speculation with Arsenal and Manchester United keeping tabs on his development in view to a loan bid.

Barcelona are asking for a believed £20 million from Spurs to allow Coutinho to leave on a season-long loan.

Mauricio Pochettino has spoken to Coutinho over the phone about a move to North London. He contacted the ex-Liverpool man to try and persuade him to join his team.

Spurs could lose their star midfielder Christian Eriksen before Thursday's transfer deadline with the Argentine manager viewing Coutinho as an ideal replacement.

The Spanish giants are prepared to offload the Brazilian to balance their books following the signing of Antoine Griezmann and to potentially finance a deal for Neymar, who continues to be linked with a sensational return to the Camp Nou.

Pochettino remains in the market for new talent following the signings of Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke.

As well as Coutinho, the club have been strongly linked with a move for Sporting CP's Bruno Fernandes and Real Betis' Giovani Lo Celso.
