After a succession of summer transfer windows that have left their fans infuriated at the lack of activity and ambition, Arsenal finally seem to be getting their act together, following their worst Premier League campaign in over 20 years.

Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette will become the Gunners' record signing when he arrives in North London, this week, securing a deal which could eventually rise to £52 million.

The French striker follows Bosnian full-back Sead Kolašinac to the Emirates stadium, with the former Schalke defender signing on a free transfer last month. In addition to these two signings, a deal for Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez is also believed to be on the horizon.

But Arsene Wenger isn't finished there with his summer recruitment drive, as the Arsenal manager has identified another two targets for his board to spend £70 million on.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola are today linking the Gunners with a double swoop for Sporting CP pair William Carvalho and Gelson Martins.

Twenty two-year-old winger Martins and 25-year-old central midfielder Carvalho are believed to be two of Wenger's long term targets and, following a disastrous Premier League campaign which saw the Gunners finish fifth in the Premier League, missing out on Champions League football for the first time in two decades in the process, the Frenchman is keen to bolster his squad significantly to ensure a repeat of the 2016/17 campaign doesn't happen in 2017/18.

Liverpool have also been monitoring Martins and are reportedly preparing a £44 million bid for the winger, yet Sporting may prefer Arsenal's double offer including Carvalho.

Martins scored six times for Sporting last season as well as laying on 14 assists for his teammates.

22-year-old Martins is also wanted by Liverpool, but Arsenal's potential move could put them in pole position to sign the winger. Image: PA

Arsenal's sudden flurry of spending may be exciting fans, but is also expected to be a result of Alexis Sanchez leaving the club, with the Chilean yet to sign a new contract at the Emirates stadium and Manchester City waiting in the wings to sign the former Barcelona forward.

Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's futures are still up in the air, as well, with both players out of contract in 12 months time.
