Between Champions League elimination, slipping out of the top four, losing five of their last eight games, protests against the club's management and Alexis Sanchez falling out with his teammates ahead of a potential Summer exit, Arsenal have had a lot of shit to deal with over the past few weeks.

And according to reports coming out of Spain today suggest that things are only about to become more miserable for Gunners' fans.

Spanish daily SPORT are reporting this morning that Arsenal officials have met with Barcelona representatives to discuss a proposed £35m deal for Hector Bellerin.

Bellerin originally made the reverse switch from Catalonia to North London as a 16-year-old, going on to establish himself as Arsene Wenger's first choice right-back for the last four seasons. Over the past year, the Spanish international has reportedly been courted by the La Liga champions, who have not properly replaced Dani Alves, who left the Camp Nou for Juventus, last Summer.

Although Bellerin did only just sign a new contract at the Emirates stadium in November, tying him to Arsenal until 2022, it is believed that Arsene Wenger has long been expecting a formal offer to be forthcoming from Barcelona and now the two clubs are apparently ready to do business.

Arsenal have lost a lot of their biggest stars in recent years. What a team they could have had if they'd all stayed at the Emirates Stadium...

Speaking shortly after signing his new contract, Bellerin said, "I just signed my new deal with the club so I'm really, really happy. As you know, I've been here for a long time and I feel like this is my home so this was the right thing to do.

"I'm really happy to be a Gunner for a few more years."

Given Arsenal's recent struggles and the uncertainty over not just Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil's futures, but also Arsene Wenger's, Bellerin may be more readily swayed by a return to Barcelona than he previously might have been.
