Ridiculous Transfer Rumour Claims Jose Mourinho Will Try To Sign Chelsea Player in January

Surely not?

Over the years, we've been treated to plenty of outlandish transfer rumours and it seems as though we've got another one to add to the collection.

This particular rumour involves Jose Mourinho, Manchester United and currently league leaders Chelsea.

The Sun are reporting that Mourinho will turn to one of his former players, John Obi Mikel, in order to improve Manchester United's midfield.

Mikel has not played a single minute for Chelsea this season and does not have a future with the club. The 29-year old's contract expires at the end of the campaign and Chelsea do not appear to have interest in renewing it.

The report says that Mourinho is interested in a cheap deal to bolster his midfield options. Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera are seen as United's first-choice midfield but it is the defensive midfield role that is the priority for Mourinho. Michael Carrick has been one of United's top performers this season but the 35-year old cannot play three games a week, while Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger are very much out of favour at the club.

And that's where the Mikel links come in. United thought they had signed him back in 2005 when they agreed a deal with Norweigan side Lyn Oslo. The 'signing' was confirmed on the club's official website, a press conference was held and Mikel even posed in a United shirt. However the transfer was done without representation and solely through the player and the club and after a saga where Mikel went missing and reports surfaced that he had been kidnapped, he appeared on Sky Sports News and outlined his intentions to sign for Jose Mourinho's Chelsea, who said that they had tied up a deal with his.

The long tale came to an end when Chelsea paid £4 million to his club Oslo, and a further £12 million to United, who had terminated their agreement with the Nigerian. Lyn Oslo director Morgan Andersen was found guilty of false accusations and fraud and was hit with a one-year suspended prison sentence as well as being forced to paying around £1,944 for his shady dealings.

If this transfer does go ahead, we imagine it'll be a bit smoother this time.

Will Mourinho actually turn to John Obi Mikel to turn United's season around? Let us know in the comments.
